The Perloff Foundation and Maine Science Grant Consortium has funded an opportunity for teachers from Coastal Maine Schools to build an electric guitar kit. This will be done over 2 Saturdays, one in Spring and Summer. You will receive 2 free guitar kits, 1 to build with us and 1 build with a student to help start a building program at your school later on.
Location - Ellsworth, Maine - Hancock Technical Center 112 Boggy Brook Rd, Ellsworth, ME 04605
Time - 8:30-3:30 (Saturday)
Instructor - Keith Kelley from Nokomis Regional Middle School will be the instructor.
We will provide building materials and tools needed. You will provide your own paints, stains or other materials needed for your guitar design once you leave with your kit.
The kits come with all parts to make guitar play (strings, pickups, screws)
Session 1 - Prep Guitar Kits by Sanding, Drilling, Cutting Headstock and demo of painting options.
You will then take the kit and paint and finish how you would like your guitar to look.
* This is done over multiple months to give you tons of time for painting and drying time!
Session 2 - Assemble Guitar Kits by adding pickguard/pickups, bridge, tuner, jack, and strings
You will leave with a working guitar and a google classroom full of instruction videos and materials.
*Some teachers have asked if more teachers can come from the same school if they pay for their own kits, you can do this we would just need to make sure our numbers don't exceed our space.
Please email Keithkelley@rsu19.net with any questions.
It will be first come first served, once the slots are filled we will keep your name on our list if we do another session next year.
