The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, with Salem High School, will host the fourteenth annual African American Male Summit (AAMS) on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The theme for this year’s summit is “Portraits of Success: Living Out My Worth.” The keynote address will be offered by President Makola M. Abdullah, Ph.D., Virginia State University

The anticipated outcomes for our participants are to:

1. ADVANCE–see the need to invest in their future
2. AFFIRM–understand the importance of believing in their greatness
3. MOTIVATE–identify the tools/supports necessary to fulfill their dreams
4. STRENGTHEN–utilize the summit experience as empowerment and intentional action steps

The summit will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a keynote speech and various breakout sessions around the theme and previously stated above anticipated outcomes. Students will also have access to community partners to support future opportunities for enrollment, enlistment, and/or employment. Families are invited and encouraged to participate in the Family Institute breakout sessions to occur concurrently during student breakout sessions.

Student registration is currently open. Students must remember the email they use to register for this event. It is highly encouraged to use their vbstudents email address to register for the summit. Families may indicate their participation using the student registration form. If assistance is needed with registration, students should visit their school counselor or school advisor for assistance. We highly recommend online registration by Mon., Dec. 20 to ensure adequate resources for participants.
