Abolition Wednesdays Lobby Sign-Up Form
KCADP and its partner, the ACLU of Kentucky, are hosting ABOLITION WEDNESDAYS in Frankfort during the 2017 General Assembly to lobby for the Abolition of the Death Penalty. We have an excellent opportunity to raise our collective voice and urge repeal of the death penalty. Throughout the month of February and through mid-March, we can stand together every Wednesday and urge lawmakers to support bills that will repeal the death penalty.

On these Abolition Wednesday Lobby days, you would be teamed up with 3-4 supporters and meet with State Representatives and/or State Senators. We will focus our meetings on those newly elected so we can educate them about our work and why the use of the death penalty is not the best policy for dealing with violent crime. Other visits may focus on members of the Senate and House Judiciary committees.

Participating in Abolition Wednesday is an activity for seasoned advocates as well as first time lobbyists. If you have never lobbied before call George Eklund at the ACLU with any questions you may have at 502.581.9746 or email him at george@aclu-ky.org.

After signing up, someone will be in touch with you to confirm your plans and to answer any questions about the day you volunteered for.

Here is a proposed agenda for the day:

8:45- Meet at the Kentucky Capitol annex in the basement cafeteria
9:00- Briefing for the day with KCADP and/or ACLU staff
-Talking points, keys to effective lobbying, legislative targets, and meetings that you or we have set up. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO TRY AND GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR OWN SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE ALSO.
9:15 - Lobbying activities
11:45 - Break for lunch and report what was said in the meetings
12:30 -Lobbying activities
2:00 - Report back, record what was said in the meetings and then break for the day.
