Black Teacher Project Fellowship: Cohort 5 Application
FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW
It is imperative to provide a space that supports Black teachers to reimagine what is possible in their schools and take collective action toward their vision for educational liberation. The Black Teacher Project (BTP) Fellowship is an 18-month Black teacher affinity cohort experience for teams of two classroom teachers (your partner can be from your school, district, or network) who are committed to exploring Black Identity Development, Wellness, Black Leadership for Liberation, and Quality Instruction Rooted in Blackness.

This 5th cohort of the BTP Fellowship will be based in Atlanta, GA and comprised of up to 15 teams (30 classroom teachers) from schools in the Metro Atlanta region. BTP Fellows will attend monthly 2.5 hour convenings focused on building the knowledge, skills, and disposition needed to catalyze and influence the emergence of transformative practices that create opportunities to support Black teachers’ thriving. This experience will focus on examining, innovating and imbuing new models for participants' context that foster wellness, liberated learning, and increased opportunity for marginalized students. BTP Fellows will build a supportive community of restoration and renewal through critical friendship, action learning, and shared experience. Each team will also receive coaching to support the planning and implementation of a co-created action learning plan addressing both an equity challenge in their context and their unique leadership aspirations. Fellows will be asked to apply in teams of two. Both participants must have the desire, influence, and capacity to support an effort to forge systems-level change.

FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS
  • As members of the Black Teacher Project Fellowship, Fellows will experience a deeper understanding of existing and potential new possibilities for their practice through their partnership in a national network of Black teacher leaders. They will be provided with a multitude of tangible tools and resources including critical time and space to strategize, peer networking, access to experts, and technical assistance.
  • Additionally, Fellows will have the opportunity to engage in thought partnership with coaches to strategize how best to address their equity challenge and reach their instructional and leadership aspirations.
  • Fellows may also earn a chance to assert themselves as experts in the field through possibilities for shared publication and peer-to-peer learning.
  • Finally, Fellows will receive a host of suggestions for ways to utilize the work produced by their team, a stipend of $700 per semester ($2100 total), and resources to efficiently implement future initiatives so that they might scale their efforts moving forward.
