Protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Will you stand with us and protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Porcupine Caribou Herd and the Gwich’in Way of life? We, the undersigned Alaskans, wish to make it known that we strongly support permanent protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to forever protect this culturally sacred, beautiful, and wild place and deeply thank you for your support in this effort. It is a misconception that all Alaskans support opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas development. As Alaskans, we believe that protecting this sacred place is of the utmost importance and that it is in the best interest of Alaska to transition off of fossil fuels as soon as possible.

We stand in solidarity with the Gwich’in Nation of Northeastern Alaska and Yukon and Northwest Territories in Canada who have relied on the Porcupine Caribou Herd for thousands of years, for food, cultural and spiritual needs. The Porcupine Caribou Herd migrates through to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge-Coastal Plain every year where they give birth and calve their young, up to forty thousand calves are born in a two week time in the spring. This area is known to the Gwich’in as “Iizhik Gwats’an Gwandaii Goodlit“ (The Sacred Place Where Life Begins).

Over the years veterans, recreational enthusiasts, and scientists have visited this magnificent place making it important to each of us. As Alaskans, we urge you to join us to seek and implement climate solutions that foster a fair, equitable, and just transition throughout Alaska.
