Readers will be responsible for the following:
• Reviewing fiction and creative nonfiction submissions on our team Slack• Providing short comments on submissions• Ensuring that submissions fit our guidelines
We’d like readers to:
• Have previous experience reading for/working at a lit mag, though this isn't an absolute requirement (but please mention past experience in your cover letter if you have it)• Be able to work independently, reading 5-10 submissions per week (or less — probably less)• Have an understanding of LGBTQ+ culture, inasmuch as they can identify when a term is used incorrectly or a piece could be perceived as offensive• Preferably be LGBTQ+ and/or have ties to the Midwest, but if the right person is neither of these things, that’s fine• Be familiar with OUT/CAST! All our issues and biweeklies are available online (https://outcastlit.us/biweeklies). One of our biggest determining factors, even if a piece is excellent on its own, is whether it's a good fit for us based on our established voice.
Previous submitters/contributors to OUT/CAST are welcome to apply, unless you are currently awaiting a response from us on a submission.
