Please complete the online application following the instructions above by Friday June 14, 2013 at Midnight. If turning in a hard copy, the application must be returned to the Office of Student Involvement (CE370) on June 14, 2013 by 5:00 p.m.
A non-refundable participant fee of $25 is required upon completion of your application. After your application has been accepted, payment will be requested. This cost covers all of your trip expenses including transportation, food, housing and site fees for the entire Alternative Break. This fee does not cover food purchases during travel to and from the destination or any personal purchases on the trip (such as souvenirs or toiletries).
If your application is accepted, you have committed yourself to the Summer Alternative Break trip and are expected to attend!
Applicants also must be able to attend two mandatory pre-trip meetings on Tuesday, July 9 and Tuesday, July 23 from 4:30p – 6:30pm. If you have concerns about this, please email Kayla Collins- email@example.com or Jarod Wilson- firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applicants who do not attend the mandatory pre-trip meetings will not be able to participate in Summer Alternative Break. Your education and orientation to the social issue and connection to your trip team are key foundational requirements to trip success.
Applications are due Wednesday, June 26, 2013 by 11:59 pm if completing the application online or by 5:00 p.m. if turning in a hard copy to the Office of Student Involvement – CE 370.
For the second time ever, the Office of Community Service will be offering a Summer Alternative Break trip! The trip will focus on homelessness and poverty. We will leave July 26, 2013 and arrive back here on campus July 28, 2013; we can discuss departure and arrival times at the MANDATORY pre-trip meeting.
The goal for this trip is to learn how and why some people are homeless while participating in activities that simulate similar experiences of what the homeless population goes through. As a volunteer, you could work in a soup kitchen, food pantry, or an urban garden! Don’t miss out on this amazing trip!
**Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in courses, but this is not mandatory**
