Opportunities for: Developing Skills for the Instructional/Teaching Assistant (IA/TA) Role
Survival Skills for Instructional/ Teaching Assistants
Discuss and implement practical tips and strategies to survive and thrive as an Instructional or Teaching Assistant (IA/TA). The workshop series will be offered every Fall, Winter and Spring quarter.

Open to UC San Diego graduate students serving as IAs/TAs with preference given to those with an appointment concurrent with the Survival Skills series. Learning outcomes:

Teaching Consultations
Come meet one-on-one with a CET Graduate Instructional Designer to talk through questions you might have and strategies for success as an Instructional or Teaching Assistant, or Instructor of Record.
There is also the opportunity for a Teaching Observation by a Graduate Instructional Designer, providing a new level of awareness and insight to your teaching (with no judgement!). This opportunity will begin Winter 2018.

Teaching Chats

Inclusive Teaching
The Inclusive Teaching Tools Workshop is a 2 hour workshop offered each quarter, and is open to UC San Diego graduate student and postdoc instructors at all levels of experience.

Opportunities for: Preparing to be Future Faculty (Graduate Students or Postdocs)
Teaching and Diversity Statement Workshops
Drafting your Teaching and Diversity Statements: Workshop participants receive guidance on what to include in an effective teaching and diversity statement, plus directed time to write and/or receive peer feedback on a draft. Offered in collaboration with the Writing Hub in the Teaching + Learning Commons.

This program is open to UC San Diego graduate students and postdocs, and is recommended for individuals with significant teaching experience and/or preparing for the job market, although instructors at all levels are welcome.

Introduction to College Teaching (formerly Teaching and Learning at the College Level)
Ready to move beyond the Instructional/Teaching Assistant role and consider the art and science of teaching? In this quarter-long engaging course (2 hours/week for 9 weeks), you will develop your expertise in evidence-based effective teaching practices that support student learning, which culminates in creating a lesson plan for a class in your discipline. This experience will be offered every Fall, Winter and Spring quarter.

This program is open to UC San Diego graduate students and postdocs, and is aimed at instructors with a strong interest in preparing to be instructors beyond the Instructional/Teaching Assistant position. Syllabus:

Course Design Studio for New Instructors of Record
About to teach as Instructor of Record? Or want to design an example course for job applications? With the Course Design Studio for New Instructors of Record, we offer support for all stages of the planning, creating, or course updating process and adapt our offerings to best serve participant needs. The Studio is a 21-hour experience over 3 days.
