2017 FREE Event Planning Workshops
WEEK 2 - Wednesday, March 22, 2017
9:00 - 3:00PM at Cinemapolis Movie Theatre in Downtown Ithaca


Who should attend?
- Individuals and groups applying for STPB Room Tax grant funding
- Any event planners looking to do projects in 2017
- Groups and organizations interested in considering new events or growing existing ones
- Any one interested in learning more about event coordinator responsibilities and planning.

Workshop Goals:
Provide event planners in Tompkins County with topical, timely, and useful information on various aspects of event planning. Enable event planners to learn new ideas and share information with each other about challenges and solutions in the event planning process. Help event planners be better prepared and organized for the event they are organizing. Inspire event planners to think about how their events can have a positive tourism impact on the community.

IMPROVING YOUR TOURISM IMPACT
The Tompkins County Tourism Program supports many events in this area with the primary goal to draw more visitors to Tompkins County. How can you enhance your event to increase the likelihood of overnight stays and secondary spending in this community? This workshop will discuss formatting your event to attract visitors and increase tourism to the county.

CREATING INCLUSIVE EVENTS & PROGRAMMING
A workshop with Brave Trainings' Founder, Cornell F. Woodson on how to achieve inclusivity in your events from design to implementation. Participants will walk away with language and a basic understanding of how to monitor your programming to ensure you are producing thoughtful and welcoming experiences and environments.

THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT & YOUR EVENT - (Pending Availability )
Learn firsthand from a County Health Department representative about the rules and regulations pertaining to food vendors and food service at your event. Learn the required permits, deadlines, and checkpoints when it comes to planning mass gathering events.

MARKETING & ADVERTISING
What is the best way to get the word out about your special event? How soon should you start promoting your event, where, and how? This workshop will weigh in on the merits of print, radio, online advertising, press releases strategies, etc. And also give you a realistic timelines for creating an integrated marketing campaign to promote your event.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS? Event evaluation, winding down your event and preparing for the following year.
By what measure was your event a success? Attendance? Draw? Who came to your event and how did they find out about your event? How do you gauge popular opinion? This seminar will detail why event evaluation is critical to the longevity of your event, and how to use it to your advantage going forward. If you have received a grant for your event this workshop is particularly good to attend.

New event planners are encouraged to attend both workshop days. Intermediate and professional organizers with experience are welcome to attend both as well, but may find the March 22nd workshop to be most valuable.

These workshops are FREE to attend. Complimentary continental breakfast & lunch provided for attendees each day. We will also offer parking vouchers for anyone parking in the Green St. and Seneca Garage for the day.
