2026 Los Angeles County Superintendent of the Year
Each year the Los Angeles County Office of Education recognizes superb leadership through the Los Angeles County Superintendent of the Year award. The honor is designed to provide much-deserved recognition for Superintendents. Honorees are chosen based on their leadership in learning, excellence in communication, professionalism and dedicated community involvement.

To be qualified for recognition, candidates must be a sitting superintendent of one of the county's 80 school districts. They must also have served at least three years as the Superintendent for their current District.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
The Superintendent of the Year recognition program is open to all superintendents in the 80 Los Angeles County districts with at least three years of service as a superintendent in their current District. In order to be nominated they should have demonstrated the following criteria:

Leadership for Learning: Demonstrates innovative and strategic leadership in meeting the needs of students and families, resulting in improved outcomes and student success.

Communication: Demonstrates excellence in organizational and interpersonal communication, fostering transparency, trust and engagement among staff, students, families and the community.

Professionalism: Demonstrates integrity, ethical leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement, while supporting the professional growth and development of staff across the organization.

Community Involvement: Actively engages with community partners and stakeholders, contributing to initiatives that strengthen schools and positively impact local, regional and broader communities.

Commitment to Equity: Ensuring all students have access to the support and opportunities needed to learn, grow and thrive, through inclusive practices and meaningful collaboration with staff, families and the community.

 
NOMINATION PROCEDURE:

If you wish to nominate a District Superintendent, please submit the nomination form by Friday, August 7, 2026, so that the committee can notify the District in a timely manner to confirm the awardees’ attendance at the Conference.

 
SELECTION PROCESS:

A selection panel will review the written applications and select the Superintendent of the Year. Only one nominee will be selected. The panel’s decision will be based on the applications submitted.
