The IHSTF School Scholarship Fund was established to offer financial assistance to Illinois high schools seeking support to attend the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.
About the IHSTF
Produced by the Illinois Theatre Association (www.illinoistheatre.org), the Illinois High School Theatre Festival (IHSTF) is the largest and oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the nation.

The three-day Festival takes place every year in early January, and switches locations between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University. Over 4,500 students, teachers, university representatives, exhibitors, and volunteers come together to present over 25 different high school productions and approximately 150 workshops.

IHSTF School Scholarship Support
The Illinois Theatre Association is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to high schools requesting financial assistance for attendance at the IHSTF.

Scholarship monies are for all or part of IHSTF registration, housing, and/or travel expenses.
The Illinois Theatre Association will determine what scholarship amounts will be made available in connection with the previous year’s Festival solicitation(s) toward the IHSTF School Scholarship Fund and any Festival surplus.
IHSTF School Scholarship Criteria
High schools requesting assistance must be located in Illinois.

There must be a demonstrated need for financial assistance.
IHSTF School Scholarship Application Process
A school representative shall first register for the IHSTF by completing the on-line school registration found at www.illinoistheatrefest.org.

Registration opens on August 15th.

Registrants will indicate, “I am an IHSTF School Scholarship Applicant” on the form and choose the “Pay Later” option.

The representative shall then complete the IHSTF School Scholarship Application Form no later than September 15th.

Submission of this form indicates a commitment to attendance at the IHSTF should funding be awarded.
IHSTF School Scholarship Selection Procedure
The IHSTF School Scholarship Selection Committee will consist of the Executive Director of the current Festival, an IHSTF Associate Director of Development, and an ITA Board of Director Secondary School Theatre Division Representative.

Scholarship recipients will be selected, and notified in person, by the end of September.

If not chosen for an award, schools may either cancel, or revise, their IHSTF registration.
Distribution of IHSTF School Scholarship Funds
The monies for IHSTF registration will be paid directly to the IHSTF through the IHSTF School Scholarship Fund.

A scholarship for travel and/or housing will be paid in advance from the IHSTF School Scholarship Fund to the school.

If recipients are unavailable to attend after the above has been paid out, their school will be invoiced for the travel/hotel expense money and for the registration fee of each student who is unable to attend.
