BCL Application -- Introduction
Burlington City & Lake Semester [BCL] is a program offered to 11th, and 12th grade students at Burlington High School who are interested in a real-world, applied, interdisciplinary learning experience. It provides an opportunity for real-world exploration and inquiry, and a chance to build community, both within our smaller group and in Burlington at large.
While parts of the program are non-traditional, it will push you in new ways. All participants have the potential to earn a full-schedule of BHS credits.
Aside from interest and readiness, two additional requirements for participation are:
1) the support of adults and teachers who know you and know your potential, and 2) your willingness to be an active member of our learning community. BCL requires a high level of student commitment in terms of attendance, engagement, and behavior. Students should be able to demonstrate that they are ready for this kind of experience.
Please fill out the form below and the questions below. There are no “right” answers. This is a chance to shine a light on who you are--and to let us know what you will bring to the program.
The BCL Project Team will review application materials. Please know that although your individual qualities are an important factor in the admissions process, other factors matter too, including BCL’s Mission, Vision, and Commitment to Equity & Inclusion. Overall, BCL is committed to building a learning community that is engaged, empowered, and representative of Burlington’s many forms of diversity.
Space in the program is limited, so not all viable candidates can be admitted. If you aren't admitted this time around, BCL staff will support your re-application at a later date, and/or help you establish your BHS schedule.
Note that where "signatures" are indicated, your name on this form will function as a signature.
Also note that the final section -- parent/guardian support -- is an essential part of the application, and will require an additional step.
