N8 Agrifood Crop and Soil Innovation Pipeline (CSIP) Survey
The HEFCE-funded N8 AgriFood program, proposes to develop a ‘Crop and Soil Innovation’ Pipeline (CSIP) to bridge the gap between academia and industry in the production of ‘public good’ or pre-competitive crops. The CSIP is a technological platform that leverages state of the art crop and soil research infrastructure and expertise across the N8 universities well suited to deliver a step change in agricultural production systems. The N8 Crop and Soil Innovation Pipeline (CSIP) will undertake multidisciplinary research programmes targeting the discovery, validation and application of novel crop traits from laboratory to field trials.
The N8 CSIP is a flexible technology platform that can be customised to allow industry partners to de-risk research and development programmes as well as boost crop productivity in developing countries. CSIP will act as an enabling collaborative network for translation of basic science into crop improvement programmes, facilitating the generation of impact cases and acting as a portal for dissemination.
To achieve this, N8 CSIP aims to establish a new National Translation Hub for crop and soil innovation. The core expertise and infrastructure would come from the pooled resources of the N8 Universities, and together we can leverage diverse funding streams to develop innovative solutions with real impact.
