2022 AIARD Future Leaders Forum Application

The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development (AIARD) administers a competitive fellowship program to nurture and provide networking opportunities to students attending: 1) the AIARD Annual Conference and 2) the annual Future Leaders Forum, both hosted virtually this year. The AIARD Future Leader Fellowships (FLF) are awarded on a competitive basis to students who have a sincere interest in international agriculture and rural development issues and their solutions. The fellowship program has the following objectives:

• Identify and bring together an interdisciplinary yearly cohort of promising students who demonstrate interest and/or experience in devoting their careers to international agriculture and rural development.
• Provide Fellows with the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with other Fellows, key agencies and international partners.
• Support the career and research objectives of the Fellows through long-term relationships with AIARD and the Future Leader Fellow alumni group.
• Enhance the Fellows’ understanding and appreciation of issues and opportunities in international agriculture and rural development.

To be eligible for the AIARD Future Leader Fellows Program, a student must:

• Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and objectives of AIARD in addressing challenges and prospects for global food security, international agriculture and rural development.
• Be enrolled in a U.S. university;
• Be in Good Academic Standing;
• Show interest in research, coursework and a career related to international agriculture and rural development.

All application materials are due by 11:59 PM Pacific Time on Friday, April 29th, 2022. Final announcements of Fellows will be made by May 16th and honored at the virtual, 2021 AIARD Annual Conference from June 5-8, 2022.

I am committed to the mission of AIARD and I am willing to support the mission through a volunteer activity within one year of receiving the award. This activity could include: serving on one of AIARD’s sub-committees for a period of one year (see list of committees below – please note that the committees meet virtually); hosting a campus event to inform other students and faculty about AIARD’s mission and purpose; serving as a campus point-of-contact in recruiting FLF applicants for the next year’s competition; or, an activity I may propose to AIARD subject to approval by the AIARD Executive Committee.
