CEC is an international community of educators who are the voice and vision of special and gifted education. CEC’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with exceptionalities and their families through professional excellence and advocacy.
The purpose of this award is to recognize a general educator who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of exceptional children and youth. The award recognizes a general educator who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of children with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. The award honors a CEC member whose work reflects significant educational success for students, continued professional development, and the highest standards of educational quality
The person nominated has been recognized by his/her colleagues and/or community as an outstanding teacher of exceptional children.
NOMINATION CRITERIA1. The nominee must be currently involved in direct teaching or another service area related to students with exceptionalities2. The nominee shall demonstrate exemplary performance over a period of time as a teacher or provider of direct services, exhibiting such qualities as innovation, imagination, creativity, and ability to inspire. Those achievements must be clearly recognized by members of the profession and others knowledgeable of the nominee’s performance.3. The nominee must be a member of CEC and must have maintained membership for at least the last three years and engage in work consistent with CEC’s mission statement. The nominee shall be appropriately certified as a teacher or related specialist as recognized by state and professional authorities.
NOMINATION REQUIREMENT1. Complete this nomination form. Nominee should answer the questions succinctly, 100 words -150 words minimum for each question.When all information is completed, please submit this form online by hitting the submit button. A letter of nomination from a colleague, administrator, parent of student (if applicable) outlining the educational philosophy and/or the outstanding professional contributions of the nominee to the field of special education 3. Vita/resume of the nominee (three page maximum);4. Two to three to letters or testimonials from colleagues, supervisors, education professionals, students, or parents documenting the nominee’s efforts and/or abilities in the areas of: innovation, evidence of student progress, collaboration, leadership, or mentoring. 5. NOMINATION GUIDELINES1. Permission must be obtained from the nominee2. Nominee must be a member of Chapter #0200.
Only nominees meeting the above criteria will be considered for the 2018 Palm Beach County Chapter #200 Teacher of the Year. A committee appointed by the President will review nominee’s credentials anonymously. A finalist will be selected from the eligible nominees and all nominees will be notified of the results by April 25, 2018.
