The Together for Brothers (T4B) Young Men of Color (YMOC) ten week cohort will include weekly circles and opportunities to learn, mentor and network as well as cook healthy meals with other young men of color.
This summer, T4B has another opportunity for young men of color from the International District and Westgate who have an interest in engaging with community and public transportation. From May through July young men of color will learn about how to collect data and information -- including surveys, interviews and community meetings -- about the health impacts of access, affordability and use of public transportation and young men of color in Albuquerque. YMOC will receive up to a $300 stipend at the completion of the cohort.
T4B encourages young men of color to apply who: (1) identify as African American/Black, American Indian/Indigenous/Native, Asian Pacific Islander; Chicano/Hispanic/Latino or Middle Eastern; (2) are 14-20 years old; and (3) have experience with and/or interested in learning about arts, community organizing, event planning, healthy relationships, leadership, mentoring and technology. Preference will be given to young men of color who are not currently involved with other activities as well as past T4B participants who are interested in continuing their community and leadership development but have participated in less than two cohorts.
Young men of color participating in the cohort should be ready to commit to: (1) meeting with the Young Men of Color (YMOC) Circles on Mondays (May 22 - August 14) from 5:30-8:30 pm at 309 Gold SW; (2) regularly communicate with T4B Leadership Coordinators and Co-Directors; (3) completing at least one hour of community service outside of the Monday circles; and (4) being open to learn about themselves and others as young men of color and leaders in their communities.
