EDUCATION FOR REMEMBRANCE. BRINGING COMMEMORATIONS INTO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. ROMA GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE INITIATIVE 2017
The training – “Education for Remembrance. Brining commemorations into our local communities” gathers 30-35 representatives of partner organizations and young Roma activists in order to create tools and approaches for meaningful local commemorations and remembrance activities through non-formal education about the Roma Genocide. The meeting creates a platform of exchange and learning for youth initiatives from around Europe in order to strengthen the culture of remembrance as well as the movement for the recognition of the Roma Genocide around Europe.

The course builds the capacity and skills of youth leaders and activists how to build local actions how to commemorate the Roma Genocide and to fight antigypsyism through non-formal education. The course discusses the roles, responsibilities and opportunities of young people to engage in remembrance activities and in addressing current challenges of racism in order to become agents of change.

The Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative has brought large international youth groups in the past years to commemorate the 2 August Roma Holocaust Memorial Day in Auschwitz-Birkenau, as well as to join the “16 May – Rromani Resistance Movement”. This training-course looks particularly focuses on the local level for commemoration and remembrance activities.
