2017 Outdoor Climbing Club
Outdoor Rock Climbing Club:
During our outdoor club sessions you will climb high above the valley floor of Colorado’s iconic Clear Creek Canyon. During this outdoor climbing experience you will learn the basics of outdoor climbing from tying your own figure eight follow through knot, belaying/rappelling, climbing technique, equipment selection/maintenance, and much more. Throughout the session you will receive high quality climbing instruction from an American Mountain Guide (AMGA) Single Pitch certified Instructor and learn the skills and techniques necessary to stay safe and progress in the world of rock climbing. You will receive specialized one on one instruction of the highest caliber, and explore new and beautiful climbing areas in the Front Range. WE hope to see you out there ON Belay, and we can’t wait to CLIMB ON!

Location: Two Locations in Clear Creek Canyon Including the Tunnel 1 climbing area and the East Colfax Climbing area. Both areas have different challenges and opportunities to offer climbers of all abilities. Please see below for directions to each location.

Directions:

Clear Creek Tunnel #1:
From Boulder: Drive South on Hwy 93, Hwy 93 ends and US 6 begins. Turn right (West) on hwy 6. Drive one mile. Before entering the first tunnel, park on the left side of the highway. You will see a white NSCD logo van and the pullout for parking.

From North Denver: Drive West on I-70. Exit on Hwy 58 (It’s one exit west of the Ward road exit). Continue west on hwy 58 for about 5.5 miles until you reach the intersection of Hwy 58 Hwy 93 and Hwy 6. Go West (Straight) on Hwy 6 for one mile. Before entering the first tunnel, park on the left side of the highway. You will see a white NSCD logo van and the pullout for parking.

From 470: Drive North/West on 470. Take the 6th Ave WEST exit. Follow 6th Ave west for a few miles until you reach the intersection of Hwy 58, Hwy 93, and 6th Ave. At this point you need to stay on hwy. 6 (this can be confusing because you have to TURN LEFT at this intersection to stay on 6th. This is the entrance to Clear Creek Canyon. Continue one mile. Before entering the first tunnel, park on the left side of the highway. You will see a white NSCD logo van and the pullout for parking.

From Central Denver: Drive West on 8th ave. until you are able to go west on 6th ave. Follow 6th ave west until you reach the intersection of Hwy 58, Hwy 93, and 6th ave. At this point you need to stay on hwy 6 (this can be confusing because you have to TURN LEFT at this intersection to stay on 6th). This is the entrance to Clear Creek Canyon. Continue one mile. Before entering the first tunnel, park on the left side of the highway. You will see a white NSCD logo van and the pullout for parking.

East Colfax:
From Boulder: Drive South on Hwy 93, Hwy 93 ends and US 6 begins. Turn right (West) on hwy 6 and drive up the canyon until you reach the junction of 119 and Hwy 6 stay left on Hwy 6 until you reach the sixth tunnel about 14 miles from the start of the canyon; After going through the sixth tunnel, park on the right side of the highway you will see a NSCD logo van and the pullout for parking.

Things to Bring:
Outdoor climbing is fun but only if you are prepared for your days experience. So to help you we have made a list of things we want you to bring every time to climbing club:
• Closed toed shoes you don’t mind getting dirty
• FULL water bottle
• Snacks
• Raingear
• Warm Layer (NON COTTON)
• Active Pants that cover the knee
• Any personal climbing gear
