Festiva Whippets Facts and Questionnaire
Festiva Whippets started with littermates Ch. Oxford’s Stetson and Ch. Oxford’s Passion, ROM in 1988. From there we have grown into a small kennel that produces quality whippets. We strive to produce healthy, happy pets that are also exceptional in conformation, type and athletic ability. Your puppy is guaranteed to be free of genetic defects. In the unfortunate event that a debilitating genetic condition is uncovered your pet will be replaced.

We always have and always will stand behind our whippets. If at any time you find yourself unable to care for, or keep your whippet we are to be contacted. We will then take back your whippet and keep it for you until you are able again, or work with you to find him a suitable new home. As a responsible breeder we need to be sure our whippets are safe and loved.
The Whippet is a medium-sized member of the sight hound family, and is very similar in appearance to the Greyhound, only smaller. Originally bred by working class people in England to provide rabbits for the table and racing sport on weekends, the Whippet is now one of the most stylish of breeds—equally at home gracing the couch with his elegant curves or running at speeds of up to 35 miles per hours! The Whippet was dubbed the poor man’s Greyhound since only aristocracy was allowed to own Greyhounds.

Whippets are gentle, sensitive and affectionate dogs. They are generally very quiet and have a very tight coat making them an excellent choice for a house dog. However, as premier canine athletes, they require short periods of vigorous exercise almost daily, and do best where they can either run in a safely fenced yard or be taken on a leash to a secure park or field for play sessions with balls and Frisbee's. Whippets, like all other sight hounds, are visually oriented and love to chase objects (like rabbits, squirrels and cats) which they may see at a distance. This means that they are vulnerable to being hit by cars. They are keen hunters and will run into busy roads if they see something interesting to chase, oblivious to the calls of their owners. For this reason, you must never have your Whippet unleashed near any moving vehicles.
As might be expected, Whippets excel at coursing and racing. Unlike Greyhound racing, Whippet racing is purely for sport and not for gambling or prize money. The Whippet’s natural athletic gifts and quick mind can also be put to use in agility, flyball, obedience and Frisbee competitions. Currently they are one of the most popular show dogs in the Hound Group. Of course, first and foremost, Whippets are our valued and loved companions and friends.

ALL pet puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract with limited registration. This means that you will NOT be able to breed the animal and obtain papers from AKC for the puppies if a breeding occurs. ALL puppies, regardless of gender, are not to be altered before 1 year of age.

Festiva litters are raised in the house with us and socialized in varying environments after their first shot at eight weeks of age. Temperament is a priority for us. We strive to produce genetically sound whippets. Dogs are health tested according to the recommendations of our parent club in an effort to ensure that only genetically sound whippets produce our next generation. As with any endeavor the unexpected can happen, if your dog is found to have a genetic defect that will alter the life of your dog you will be entitled to another dog if you so choose.

A $100 deposit is required to hold your place for a pet puppy. The deposit is not refundable if you change your mind or you obtain a puppy from another breeder. In the event that there is not a pet available the deposit will be returned or forwarded to the breeder that does have a puppy available. Pet puppies are selectable in the order in which deposits are received after 8 weeks of age and show selections have been made. Our puppies typically go home with their new owners at 10 weeks.

We remove dew claws on all of our litters, they are well socialized, wormed, and given the first puppy shot at 8 weeks. Our puppies will leave with a contract which includes a health guarantee, food and feeding schedule, advice and their pedigree. Photos of the sire and dam are also available.

The contract requires that if you are unable to keep the dog, at any time in its life, for any reason, it will be returned to us without charge. At no time are any of our dogs to be placed in rescue or in a shelter. We always take back a dog from our breeding no matter what the reason is!
