You are invited to participate in a research project being conducted by Sarah Howorth, Ph.D., a faculty member, in the Graduate Special Education program, School of Learning and Teaching at the University of Maine.  The purpose of the research is to evaluate the effect of participation in this online module on the understanding of dating etiquette by those who participate and are also on the autism spectrum. You must be at least 18 years of age and in the PEERS® Dating Bootcamp to participate in this study.

What Will You Be Asked to Do?

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to take an anonymous pre and post survey.  It should take you about 10 minutes to participate each time. You will respond to the survey on your own time before beginning the PEERS® Dating Bootcamp and after you finish the PEERS® Dating Bootcamp.

Risks:  Except for your time and inconvenience, there are no risks to you from participating in this study.

Benefits:

While this study will have no direct benefit to you, this research may help us learn more about the understanding of dating etiquette by those who participate and are also on the autism spectrum. The information obtained will allow us to better target dating etiquette deficits in dating and social skill programs.

Confidentiality:

This study is anonymous.  Prior to responding to the survey, you will complete a rubric (i.e., the number of the month you were born, the first three letters of your mother’s first name, the first initial of your middle name) to create an anonymous participant ID. Pre-test and post-test survey responses will be linked via the rubric responses to maintain anonymity. All data will be deleted from the Google Drive on December 31, 2027.

Voluntary:

Participation is voluntary.  If you choose to take part in this study, you may stop at any time.   You may skip any questions you do not wish to answer.

Your choice of "Yes" below indicates you have read and understand the information and agree to participate. You will receive a copy of these forms.
