Call for Papers: Illinois Classical Conference Annual Meeting, Friday, October 17 - Sunday, October 19, 2025
The Illinois Classical Conference seeks proposals for its annual conference, to be held at Adlai Stevenson High School, from October 17-19, 2025 (while there will be a reception on Friday, Oct. 17, the program will not start until the morning of Saturday, Oct. 18). There is no single theme for the annual meeting, and we encourage submissions related to all aspects of pedagogy, scholarship, and/or other practice of Latin or Classics. We particularly invite, though, presentations that engage with matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the fields of Latin and Classics. As Pliny the Younger’s writings will be introduced to the AP Curriculum this year, we would also like to encourage submission relating to Pliny’s letters, both scholarly and pedagogical. Speakers, through the years, have been from all backgrounds (educators, non-educators, Classics enthusiasts, students) and from all levels (kindergarten through university), and topics may appeal to any or all of those constituencies as well. Whatever their topic, presenters should aim to meet the high standard of quality we have seen in the past by offering presentations that are engaging, enlightening, and focused.

Please use the form below to submit your proposal.
(Alternate form available in Word and PDF.)
Submissions deadline: July 7, 2025 - Extended to August 1, 2025

Proposals are being accepted in two formats:
● Paper: traditional talk, 15-20 minutes
● Workshop: interactive presentation, 30-40 minutes

Submissions will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
Please contact Krishni Burns (ksburns@uic.edu) with any inquiries.

The Illinois Classical Conference (https://illinoisclassics.weebly.com) was established in 1937 and has enjoyed a robust membership every year since (including presidents emeriti Farrand Baker, Bernice Fox, and Tom Sienkewicz). Our membership is a dedicated mix of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary educators who are interested in a wide variety of topics related to history, culture, mythology, and pedagogy. The ICC draws its membership from Latin and Classics programs at schools at all levels across the state. The ICC assists in the development of an MAT program in Latin at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and also supports a Certamen league, the Illinois Junior Classical League, the Illinois Latin Tournament, and the Latin Pedagogy Workshop.
