Applications for "The Category is....Runway!" are now open through June 5th, 2024!
Garden State Equality is seeking High School age youth (9th through 12th grade) in Essex and Union County to participate in our first gender affirming fashion camp season. Participants will learn the craft of clothing design: from drafting a sketch, cutting and measuring fabric, hand and machine stitching, tailoring, and final runway design in the span of 5 weeks. Our session will end with a runway show, and all participants will leave with multiple garments that they have designed for themselves.
This FREE program will take place from June 24th through July 26th in Union, NJ. Camp days will be Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 3:30pm*, with the final fashion show on Friday July 26th. Lunch will be provided twice per week, and campers will go on two field trips over the course of the session. No experience is necessary to apply! Applicants will be chosen on a lottery basis.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Justine Evyn Saliski, Director of Education and Youth Development, at saliski@gardenstateequality.org.
If you are a student outside of Essex or Union County, please email saliski@gardenstateequality.org.
