Dear Participant,
Thank you for your interest in our Workshop on climate journalism in Chisinau (7-11 September, 2025 - could be updated). n-ost is organizing Workshop that will be conducted in English and will bring together climate journalists from EaP Countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) and EU countries.
Who we are looking for:We are seeking climate journalists with 2–3 years of experience from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and EU countries. Applicants should demonstrate a track record in climate-related reporting. Preference will be given to those working with digital formats such as podcasts or video storytelling. Prior investigative journalism experience is not required. We will choose 2 journalists from each EaP countries and 3 EU journalists.
Programme Overview:
The 4-day programme (including arrival day) will combine co-creation with participants and expert-led sessions. It will include discussions with NGOs and government authorities. Topics will cover:
Geopolitics and energy policy (e.g., Transnistria case), and comparisons across EaP countries
Renewable energy potential in the region, with a focus on Moldova
Common obstacles to energy transition (political, legal, technical) and strategies to overcome them
Citizen and municipal involvement in renewable energy and just transition (field visit to municipalities in energy communities project by dena)
Corruption in climate policy, including climate fund misuse and greenwashing
Tools for data journalism and climate reporting
Cross-border climate collaboration and transnational investigations
In this questionnaire, we would like you to provide a pitch about a possible investigation you would like to work on during the workshop and over the next 6-8 weeks. Please, in your pitch provide us with a working title for your story (-ies) and a brief summary of your story (what kind of issue you want to investigate?). Your publication should be related to climate change issues, could be with a focus on the specific issues in your country other be transboarder. Please, do not use ChatGPT without directly indicating it in the application (= if you used ChatGPT in any case of you pitch development, please write at the beginning of the pitch).
After participating in the workshop, you will be able to apply for funding for your idea - exploratory or pre-investigative publications - that help journalists identify key actors, trends, and potential leads for deeper investigation into climate and energy issues. (max 800 Eur, including taxes).
We will evaluate the ideas and select participants for the training based training on the quality of the idea and the potential of the story.
In order to participate in the Workshop, you will need to provide the organizers with a confirmation letter from editor stating that they are willing to publish your article if you are selected.
