Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board Elementary Summer Programs 2020 for Grade 1-8 Students
This form is used to register students currently enrolled in elementary schools within the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board for our 2020 Literacy/Numeracy Summer Learning Program. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, our Summer Learning Program will be entirely online. There is no onsite programming available for 2020.
Parents who are interested in having their child participate in the program will be asked to support their child each day by assisting them to login to the learning platform. It is expected that parents/guardians will be available throughout the duration of our program July 6 - 24th from 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. to help support the educators by ensuring that their children are on task. It is expected that all students have access to a reliable internet connection to ensure they can engage in video conferencing with our educators.
In order to ensure that learning opportunities are maximized and that parents, guardians, and students know how to effectively engage with the learning tools outlined above, you’ll be asked to participate in a one-hour virtual orientation session on either June 24th at 1:00 p.m., June 25th at 7:00 p.m. or June 26th at 3:00 p.m. Parents, guardians and students are asked to attend at least one of the sessions. Training sessions will also be recorded and made available so they can be played back at a later date for reference.
During this orientation session participants will learn how to sign in to the Brightspace Learning platform and how to interact with the Virtual Classroom that will allow for live communication between the educators and students. The session will be approximately one hour in length. If you don't have a reliable device such as an iPad, laptop or desktop computer that has a video camera and microphone please email summer administrators and we'll provide one for your child to use throughout the duration of the program.
Prior to June 22nd you’ll receive an email regarding the information above with details outlining how to participate in these sessions.
All programs are subject to enrollment. Each class will be capped at 15 students per class. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Your child will be placed in the current grade that you specify below. The Summer Learning Program will feature two special education resource teachers to support specialized programs. All classrooms will benefit from the addition of Virtual Learning Assistants to assist students in individual and small group learning. Once a class is full that grade will no longer appear and it will automatically be removed from the registration site.
In order for all of our programs to have the greatest impact for our students, we would ask that parent(s)/guardian(s) agree to have their child attend for the entire duration of the program. If for any reason parent(s)/guardian(s) decide to withdraw their child from a program, they are asked to inform their child's summer program teacher, so that spot can be designated to another child.
Upon submitting this registration you'll receive an email confirming your child's registration. In the email you'll also find the contact information for the Summer School principal should you have any further questions.
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) who register their child(ren) without their school’s staff consent will have their registration removed from the site. All registrations need to be pre-approved by school staff and will be monitored closely.
