we created this work (my body is here but my heart is in haifa) as a response to james baldwin's
nothing personal, feeling that haifa in 2023
sounded a lot like new york in 1964. the text was originally published as a collaboration between baldwin and long time friend and iconic photographer, richard avedon. this essay was reissued as text alone in 2021. regardless of how many times we reread his essay, we remain engaged, moved and inspired.
the text itself consists of four parts and can be read in full in under an hour. during our guided workshop we will read the text together and respond individually. sharing will be voluntary and welcome. the workshop is set to a structure concentrated on movement and writing- and within that structure, you are free to improvise.
