Assize Court and Wiltshire Museum consultation feedback
The Wiltshire Museum and the Devizes Assizes Court Trust are developing initial proposals for the relocation of the museum into the conserved courthouse building.
As part of this we have developed ideas for different ways the building layout might work, and the key aims and themes for the exhibition and displays. We would be very grateful for your feedback at this formative stage of the project by answering the questions below.
Thank you very much!
Building layout and plans
We have developed a range of options for the building layout. Which do you prefer?
Do you have any key comments or questions about any of these option>
The two existing courts and entrance hall are a full 8 metres high. Would you rather see?
Both courts and the entrance hall split into two levels and a smaller extension (option D)
The Crown Court and Entrance Hall remain unaltered and a larger extension is built (option A, B, and Emerging)
Do you think the Library and Research spaces should be:
With views out to the canal and public realm and on the visitor’s route to encourage use (Emerging Option)
In a more secluded part of the building
Do you think that the café should be located?
At the front of the building on Northgate Street
At the rear of the building by the canal
Do you think that the cells in the basement should be part of the visitor experience??
What makes a museum building more welcoming to you?
