The New Works Playhouse Workshops: Sessions with Shelby: An Interactive Monologue Workshop
Date/Time:
March 7, 2021 2pm-4pm GMT

Requirements:

- Please be sure to have a contemporary monologue between 60 and 90 seconds prepared and memorised for participation in the workshop.

The Goal:

This workshop is an ideal way to polish up some brand new audition material or breathe new life into a familiar piece that may be feeling stale. In Sessions with Shelby, we'll work to break down the audition process into 4 key elements: Choosing Content, Finding Your Flow, Identifying Objectives, and Experimenting with Actions; then apply this philosophy to your existing piece!

Learning Objectives:

- Choosing Content: A brief discussion on how to choose the best material for auditions and how to prepare long before the memorisation begins.

- Finding your Flow: A brief discussion on energy, pacing, and how to clarify a beginning, middle, and end all in under two minutes.

- Identifying Objectives: Suggestions of strategies to use in determining what your character wants/needs, how they're going to go about getting it, and what is standing in their way.

-Experimenting with Actions: Applying diverse transitive verbs to each section of your monologue to give your performance a flair that is fresh, unique, and distinctly you!
