Every community is held together by the stories it keeps. How do we pass those stories down, and how do we use them to build spaces of safety, creativity, and belonging today?

As part of the Gregg Museum’s ongoing exploration of sanctuary, community memory, and collective care, community historian and cultural organizer Johnny Lee Chapman III will organize and facilitate a series of intergenerational Story Circles. Centered on the voices of Black leaders and elders in Raleigh, these gatherings are designed to connect deeply with young adults—the next generation of leaders.

Through facilitated dialogue and storytelling, the Story Circles will explore how Black communities in Raleigh built networks of mutual support and sanctuary. These gatherings will create powerful opportunities for Black elders and leaders to pass down lived histories to NC State students and the broader community, strengthening intergenerational dialogue and preserving vital community memory.

Space is limited to preserve the intimacy of the circle. This event is free but registration is required.
