Frances E. W. Harper 200: Looking Back, Moving Forward • Sept. 19–21, 2025
We are excited to share that the Center for Black Digital Research/#DigBlk and the Africana Research Center at Penn State will be hosting an in-person symposium on September 19-21 — just days before Frances Harper’s 200th birthday. We invite you to attend in person!
While most activities are free, we kindly ask that you register so we can plan accordingly and send updates as needed.
SCHEDULE OVERVIEW:
- Friday, Sept. 19: Performance of “The Artistry and Activism of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper” at the Center for Performing Arts (ticket purchase required)
- Saturday, Sept. 20: 3 panels, presentation on Harper Read-a-thon
- Sunday, Sept. 21: 2 panels, presentation on Harper public mural and digital exhibit, poetry reading of original work inspired by Harper, closing remarks
COST: Free except the dance performance
Most symposium events (panels and coffee breaks) are free. Tickets must be purchased for the dance performance Friday evening. Tickets are available directly from the Center for Performing Arts.
