Thank you for your interest in volunteer tutoring! Local students will benefit from your knowledge, expertise, and support. You will make a difference.
SAW Tutoring offers free group tutoring sessions to local students through the supervision of the Staunton-Augusta YMCA (SAYMCA) and thanks to financial support from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge. Most tutoring takes place online, via Zoom, but we will also begin rolling out a few in-person sessions this fall for those interested.
Please fill out this form to let us know you're interested. You'll then receive the SAYMCA's volunteer application via email. The Y's volunteer application includes personal references, a background check, and a consent form.
Following the reference checks and background check, there will be a brief online training program about the prevention and identification of sexual abuse. Volunteers are cleared to tutor after this training.
Ideally, tutors offer the same subject at the same time each week, but we encourage you to apply even if your availability varies or is more limited. We hope that all volunteers envision the ability to tutor for a total of 10 or more hours during the school year. If you have questions, you can email
tutoring@saymca.org(Note: We will not share your personal contact information with students or their families; it will be maintained solely by this tutoring program.)
