About miRcoremiRcore is a 501(c)(3) research organization with a vision of democratizing medical research so that anyone can initiate medical research that matters to them. We value science, compassion, and collaboration. We will keep working to bring about personalized medicine as common practice.
Outreach programOur educational outreach program includes summer camps for middle and high school students, school club GIDAS (pronounce: Guide-Us; Genes In Diseases And Symptoms), a high school volunteer group, one-day or half-day camps and workshops, a Genes and Health contest, and a high school GIDAS research conference. All focus primarily on applying computational biology to disease research. In addition, we offer a “lab-on-wheels” program to local high school classrooms to expose as many students as possible to new demanding jobs.
Microgrant programInnovative research is hard to realize through federal funding because it lacks a proof of concept. We want to promote innovation by supporting the testing of very early ideas to help achieve initial proof of concept, providing a basis for larger funding. Each year, student members vote for a disease of focus. We provide microgrants to innovative research on the year’s disease of focus. The winners will be voted on by 1) members and 2) donors. Membership Benefits (Due: $120)Voting right for the disease of focus: 1 voteAcademic writing editing session: 50 min session with a scientific paper editing professional (Ph.D., Linguistics)Access to member-only contents: Recordings of teaching during the school yearResearch conference discount: $20Summer camp discount: $80 less for one week, $40 less for another week
