Survey: Understanding Your Organization's Strategic Capacity
NOTE: Please contact jboothtobin@jhu.edu for the P3 Lab team to discuss how you can bring this assessment to your full organization.

Welcome! This is a survey developed by the P3 Lab at Johns Hopkins University alongside our report, “Understanding Strategic Capacity in Constituency-Based Organizations". The report and this survey are designed to equip organizations to assess their own strategic capacity—while simultaneously contributing to broader learning within the movement about the state of strategic capacity across the movement.

What do we mean by “strategic capacity”? Strategic capacity is the ability of an organization or movement to adapt to changing power dynamics in ways that help it move closer to achieving its goals. Given that strategic capacity is inherently connected to shifting terrains, there’s no straightforward process to building it. Instead, it’s about making choices around two big areas: the ability to learn and adapt your resources to meet the moment.

A first step in building strategic capacity is taking an honest look at how you’re doing already and identifying which areas are most important for you to focus on. This assessment is designed to do just that and is expected to take 30 minutes to complete.

By completing this survey or questionnaire, you are consenting to be part of this research study and indicating that you are 18 or older. Although you will have the option to decide whether or not to identify yourself in the survey, no matter what you decide, all data will be strictly anonymous in any research. Any identifiable data will be removed in any results that are publicly shared, and your individual answers or whether or not you participated will not be reported back to your organization. The P3 lab will not name any specific individuals or organizations in any publications. Your participation in this survey is strictly voluntary. There is no compensation or fee for participating. You can stop at any time or decide to skip any questions.

This survey has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of Johns Hopkins University. If you have any questions about the survey, feel free to reach out to the primary investigator of this study Hahrie Han (hahrie@jhu.edu).
