What is the leaf arrangement of the plant in photo 1?
How would you describe the leaflets in photo 1? (think of leaf margin, shape, venation, etc.)
What leaf arrangement is shown here?
How would you classify these flowers?
What is the difference between scientific names and common names of plants ?
What are the yellow structures on this flower called?
What inflorescences type is this?
Use the plant descriptions on p. 226 of Newcomb's Wildflower Guide to find specific differences that would clearly distinguish Wild Parsnip and Golden Alexander? (Relative size of inflorescence or height of plant might not help since they overlap). Look up any new vocabulary in the glossary.
Practice using the Questions on pages x-xi of Newcomb’s guide to determine the Locator Code number (three digit code), using two species you already know.
Common Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica)
Post on the Facebook Group a photo of a new plant that you successfully keyed out! Include the photo, 3 digit code, common name and scientific name.
