Community input on the future of DPHS
The DPHS School Building Committee is developing a vision and various options for the update of David Prouty High School. Options explore different levels of renovation, addition and new construction. They also explore program goals that would allow DPHS to serve the community more effectively in coming years. Your input on these questions is vital to the Committee's work. Please share your ideas below.

What types of spaces/resources are not present at DPHS that you would like to see provided? *
There is some interest in moving the District Pre-K program to the new or renovated David Prouty High School and out of East Brookfield so that the program can be centrally located and supported by the DPHS Early Education vocational program.  Do you think this is a good or bad idea? Why or why not?
The Mass School Building Authority has encouraged the District to explore inclusion of an 8th Grade Academy at DPHS in order to expand enrollment to 410 students.  Would you support moving the 8th grade from Knox Trail Middle School to DPHS?
Look 15 years into the future. What are your hopes for David Prouty High School in 2036? *
OPTION 1 demolishes the current gym and rebuilds it with additional square footage for physical education and Voc Tech.  This option provides additional square footage for physical education, administration, voc tech and an improved media center.  The downsides of this option are 1.) the existing, dated, classroom building remains as is; 2.) the renovation of the classroom building would require that the district rent modular classrooms or swing space for one school year while the project is completed.  PLEASE SHARE YOUR REACTION TO OPTION 1 IN THE SPACE BELOW. *

OPTION 2 demolishes the current gym and rebuilds it in front of the current administration building.  The downsides of this option are 1.) the existing, dated, classroom building remains; 2.) the renovation of the classroom building would require the district to rent modular classrooms or swing space for one school year; 3.) the current District offices would be demolished and relocated, adding to project cost. PLEASE SHARE YOUR REACTIONS TO OPTION 2 IN THE SPACE BELOW. *

OPTION 3 Demolishes the current gym and the main classroom building but keeps the admin/cafeteria and auditorium building.  The advantages are new classrooms and science labs, better solar orientation, better site organization and easier construction because the new classroom building would be built behind the current building and would not require use of modular classrooms.  PLEASE SHARE YOUR REACTION TO OPTION 3 IN THE SPACE BELOW. *

OPTION 4 Builds an entirely new school next to the existing school. The advantages are faster construction and a more efficient, updated building. The disadvantage is a smaller auditorium and cafeteria and less visibility from Route 9, as well as demolition of all of the entire existing school to make room for parking and recreational spaces.  PLEASE SHARE YOUR REACTION TO OPTION 4 IN THE SPACE BELOW. *

Public school renovation and construction projects are expensive and will require the support of the majority of voters in both Spencer and East Brookfield.  In your view, what does the project have to get right to win the community's support? *
