UCLA ASCE MENTORSHIP APPLICATION 2018-2019
TL;DR: Mentorship is where you'll find friends you didn't think you needed and you'll miss out if you're not in it.

What is the point of the mentorship program? Why should you join this when you're in MentorSEAS already? Let me tell you why.

Hello hello, my name is Vivian Chong and I am the Mentorship chair for the 2018-2019 school year. I have been working all summer to get this program the best it can be for YOU, the members of ASCE, and I am so excited for you to fill this form out. It may seem long, but every bit of it is necessary for me to get you the best mentor/mentee possible. Please fill it out to the best of your ability.

The point of the mentorship program is to GET TO KNOW THE MEMBERS OF ASCE. Whether you have been involved the past three years and you are now a senior, or you are brand new stepping onto campus for the first time at UCLA, there are always new faces to meet and experiences to be had. Although we love to hang out with our inner circles and be comfortable, I challenge you all to step out of your comfort zone and meet a group of people I hope you will call your family. Trust me, I have been there a year ago, stepping into foreign ASCE turf, terrified, but every day I wonder why I have not been a part of this community earlier, and this would not have been possible without the welcoming group of people in my ASCE family last year.

The ASCE mentorship program is aimed to create MORE MEANINGFUL, GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS with not just a select few members who are supposed to mentor/mentee you, but the club as a whole. While the mentorSEAS program is incredible for the incoming freshmen, we wanted to create a community within ASCE where active members can get to meet people they would never have met elsewhere, and new members to feel more comfortable coming out to events with each other. Mentorship does not end just after your first year, and we wanted to make this experience a more personal one for everyone.

The ONE THING I will ask of you all is for you to be OPEN-MINDED about your family placement and mentor/mentee assignment. The mentorship program is more than just who is in your family and who is your mentor/mentee. It's for you to have the opportunity to, to emphasize this again, get to know the members of ASCE better.
