Thank you for your interest in applying for the Data Visualization Society (DVS) Programs Committee!
We're thrilled that you're interested in joining the Programs Committee, a dynamic group dedicated to nurturing and expanding the smaller yet vital programs that enrich our community's experience and learning. As a member of this committee, you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing various initiatives under the DVS umbrella that currently include but are not limited to:
- Fireside Chats: Engaging conversations with leaders in the field to ignite inspiration and share insights. Responsibilities include event planning and discussion moderation.
- How-To Videos: Practical tutorials that empower our members with new skills and knowledge, made by and for the community. Responsibilities include content curation, both ideation and solicitation from the community, and multimedia know-how/video editing experience.
- Data Challenges: Overseeing opportunities for hands-on practice and innovation in data visualization Responsibilities include event planning and team management (e.g. finding and coordinating judges).
N.B.: The Information is Beautiful Awards and State of the Industry Survey both fall under the DVS Programs umbrella but are organized by their own separate committees and will not be a focus of this general Programs Committee. If these are where your interests lie (which is great!), please fill out this form or email us at programs@datavisualizationsociety.org instead. These programs operate on different schedules throughout the year. For example, Fireside Chats will ideally be monthly or every other month while Data Challenges will ideally be quarterly. We'd love to restart How-To Videos with a limited trial run of 8-10 videos over two months in the new year before committing to a year-round endeavor. This means there could be ample opportunities to work on different tasks and take on different roles over the course of your involvement.
General Expectations:
- DVS Member of any tier
- Able to commit to at least 6 months involvement in this committee
- Able to commitment 10-20 hours a month on average
- Ideally able to attend virtual meetings taking place in a US-centric timezone. This is not a hard and fast requirement, however.
- Regular slack engagement and good communication skills
Please apply by November 15th for inclusion in the kick-off of this committee in December 2024. After that, rolling applications will be accepted and reviewed quarterly in the new year.
Please fill out the form below to tell us about yourself, your interests, and what you hope to bring to the Programs Committee. Let's make a difference together in the data visualization community!
