Chevron is one of the world’s largest fossil fuel companies. It is fueling the global climate crisis, has caused widespread environmental destruction and grossly violated human rights, especially of indigenous populations, including actively powering the ongoing genocide against the people of Palestine.

The Nevada County Boycott Chevron Petition

Dear Chevron Franchise Owner,

I am joining the growing global boycott of Chevron, demanding the Chevron no longer conduct business that violates human rights. The aim of this petition is to let franchise owners know that their community supports them in taking this step.

U.S. strikes on Venezuela are an imperialist action to take over the resources of another state, undermining democracy in the U.S. and the safety and stability of countries around the world. The ones who stand to benefit most are powerful American fossil fuel companies, including Chevron. Venezuelan oil was not “stolen” from American companies as Trump claims. When the Chavez regime renegotiated terms with American companies, some of them (Chevron) accepted the terms and continued operating and making money from Venezuelan oil. Others (Conoco and Exxon) sued to receive compensation and won awards. Some of that remains unpaid, partly because US sanctions have limited the state oil company's ability to repay its debts. Chevron stock has already increased and they're already profiting from this takeover.

Meanwhile, Chevron is fueling the ongoing genocide in Palestine. As Israel continues its genocidal mission by blocking food, clean water, and healthcare to Gaza's 2 million people and increases its violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, Chevron supplies Israel's war machine with light and power via the operation and co-ownership of major gas fields off the coast of Occupied Palestinian land. Other international oil and gas companies stepped away from projects in Israel in 2024. Chevron entered the Israeli fossil gas market in 2020 with the acquisition of Noble Energy; it can choose to sell off this investment at any time.

As someone who lives, works or visit Nevada County, and someone who cares about human rights and the environment, I support the call to local Chevron Franchise Owners to sign onto a letter to Chevron Corporation asking that it end all dealings with Israel.

Inspired by powerful global campaigns like the Shell boycott during the South African Anti-Apartheid Movement, and Boycott Chevron Campaign is an opportunity to be part of a push to hold Chevron accountable for poisoning people and our planet and for fueling Israel's genocide and energy apartheid. You and your neighbors can make a difference by choosing wisely where to spend your money.

Chevron’s violations locally and globally include:

Acts of climate destruction locally, such as Chevron’s Richmond Refinery’s 2021 600-gallon oil spill into the San Francisco Bay, and globally, such as the deliberate dumping of 16 billion gallons of toxic wastewater into Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest, which they have yet to clean up.
As one of the 25 biggest polluters in the world, Chevron has a major role in fueling the climate crisis, which is directly impacting Californians. Chevron is currently being sued by CA Attorney General Rob Bonta for engaging in a “decades-long campaign of deception regarding the reality of climate change and the connection between combustion of fossil fuels and climate change, resulting in climate change-related harms in California."
Fueling widespread violence against indigenous communities, for which it faces at least 13 accusations of genocide and 17 accusations of torture in Ecuador, Chad, Cameroon, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nigeria and China, among other countries.
Complicity in Israel’s crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip; and military occupation and apartheid in Palestine, which the International Court of Justice ruled illegal in July 2024. This ruling called for an end to all commercial and business activities that facilitate Israel’s regime of occupation and oppression: this includes Chevron.

Nevada County for Palestine (NC4P) is a diverse group of people who find strength in community. Although we are working for a Free Palestine, our Coalition also works toward a more just world more broadly, and sees genocide, human and immigration rights, and climate devastation as interrelated issues.
