Twenty-five years ago, a bunch of hearty Boston College students embarked on an experiment launched by then sophomore David Healey. That experiment quickly came to be called BC bOp! Since that time, BC bOp! has grown to be one of the most successful musical ensembles in the history of Boston College!
Over these many years, you and your fellow bOp! members have been the main drivers of its success. You are a member of a unique group of people that hold affection in your hearts for each other and fond memories of the time you have spent together making music.
I write now to announce a celebration of 25 years of BC bOp this April 4-7, 2013. The focus of the celebration will be on you, our alumni, the heart and soul of bOp! The planned schedule is as follows. Please note exact times will be communicated closer to the event.
Evening bOp! Alumni Rehearsal
Early evening Baby bOp! rehearsal
Evening bOp! workshop with trumpet great Wayne Bergeron (http://www.waynebergeron.com/), open to the public
Informal alumni social event
Noon pizza lunch with current bOp!pers
Afternoon performance in Robsham with Wayne Bergeron
Undergraduate bOp! performance at 8:00
Brunch BBQ at Seb's house
We are inviting any young musicans in the families of our alumni to participate in an exciting new bOp! tradition: Baby bOp!. David Healey will be rehearsing and directing the group in several pieces that will performed during our Saturday celebration. All music will be distributed electronically to all musicians who would like to participate. If anyone in your family is interested in participating, please respond to the survey below.
Finally, I would also like to announce that Mary-Beth and John Henry have pledged a challenge grant of $25,000 to the Vanacore Student Assistantship Fund as part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration. Mary-Beth and John will match all gifts up to $25,000. My deepest gratitude to Mary-Beth and John for their generosity.
Stay tuned for more information, but for now:
