What is required to be a photographer for Love Not Lost? You don’t have to be a "professional" photographer, but you do need to be able to produce consistently beautiful imagery no matter the situation. The photos you take could be the last photos ever taken of that person, so you'll need to be able to produce clear, in-focus images and have sound knowledge and experience with off-camera lighting. We're not always lucky enough to be able to go outside with someone or have a room with a window… If you are not comfortable with off-camera lighting, or maybe you want more help with posing or camera use before applying, please visit www.creativelive.com to learn from some of the best. We'd love to have you come back to apply when you feel your skills are ready.
Because we will be producing large prints, and we desire to keep a consistent style, we will need you to upload your RAW files and we will do all of the image editing and post work. We hope this excites you since you won't need to add any editing to your already busy schedule. We want to make this as easy for you as possible since we know your time is valuable. We are also asking you to give Love Not Lost the copyrights so we can use the images as we need to for marketing, promotion, etc. to make it as easy as possible for us and the families we serve to use the images any way that may arise.
The driving question of our organization is "How can we love people better?" We ask that of everyone, including you, our photographers. We know that you are giving a lot to us by signing up, giving us your images, emotion, and time. We want to make sure you are loved and cared for and we have some really cool ways we plan on doing that!
If accepted, you will join us for a weekend-long photographer training retreat - you'll have to get there, but the food, lodging, materials, and fun is completely on us with zero cost to you! We want to make sure you're completely prepared for your sessions so we'll help you feel confident in what to say, how to handle grief, posing and lighting for special needs, and more. After the retreat, you'll go on a shadow session and then a reverse shadow session before photographing solo. When accepted, you'll get more details about all of this.
The retreat is just the beginning of a great relationship. We will keep in touch with you, ask for your feedback, and constantly work to improve the way we can love you better. As you know, relationships are hard work and require participation on both parties, and they are what makes life worth living.
As you experience losses of applicants or challenging sessions, you may need some additional support. For every session you do, you will be able to talk to a counselor if you feel like you need it. We want to make sure you are mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually well - whatever that looks like for you - so that we can continue on in this mission together to celebrate life and love for years to come.
If you've gotten this far and are excited about joining us, please fill out the application below. If you don't think you're ready just yet, that's okay too! You can further your education on Creative Live and/or you can support us in other ways. Some photographers have dedicated a percentage of their profits to LNL or donate a set dollar amount per session. Whatever you feel in your heart and whatever capacity you are able, we would be happy to have you join the Love Not Lost family!
