Artist Sheelagh Broderick has initiated Waiting Room as a speculative and propositional project; to animate the space for cultural use, to provide a focal point for artistic experimentation and participation, to make links with artists and to instigate new institutional relationships.
Proposals are invited from artists and performers of all artforms that can envisage the waiting room as a potential place for public assembly and that can operate within the constraints of the building and its functions. The area is approx 6 metres x 6 metres and is dominated by a terrazzo finished cast cement circular seating at the centre of the room. The area outside has a concrete and grass concourse that looks West across Baltimore Harbour to Sherkin Island. Proposals should consider that there is no budget for making or showing work, hence it might suit work that is experimental or in development. Artists are encouraged to consider systems of self-funding by charging audiences for their work / time.
