March 17.76 Miles with Us on August 19th!
WHAT: On Saturday, August 19th, we're convening a group of NYC Veterans Alliance members and supporters to commemorate the 241st anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn, the largest battle of the American Revolution, with a 17.76-mile march (walk) through neighborhoods, parks, and historic sites in Brooklyn. We'll also be celebrating the 2nd birthday of the NYC Veterans Alliance, and we're asking for your support to help us continue growing into our third year!

WHEN: We'll gather at John Paul Jones Park just outside the main gate of Fort Hamilton at 8:30am and step off shortly thereafter for a full day of walking, visiting historic sites and markers, and learning about and commemorating NYC military and veteran heritage from 1776 to the present. Plan on this as an all-day event; we'll move in small groups and make stops for learning and breaks. We plan to end at approximately 4-5pm. We will let registrants know more specifics as we refine our planning.

DONATE OR FUNDRAISE: As a growing, grassroots organization celebrating our 2nd birthday, we ask that registrants support our work by either donating or fundraising a modest minimum amount for this inaugural march that we hope to continue annually for years to come. Funds will go directly toward supporting the Alliance's work to empower veterans and families to make change in NYC and beyond--and we'll be very grateful for your help!

WHAT TO BRING: Registrants should pack a rucksack or backpack with an adequate supply of water, snacks, raingear, sunscreen, and other supplies needed for a full day of walking outdoors. Registrants should also pack at least one change of socks and wear comfortable hiking boots or durable footwear. Foot powder can be helpful, too.
