End-of-Summer Bash 2019
Please use this form to register for the HRCA End of Summer Bash tournament, to be held August 23-24, 2019 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3229 MacDonald Road, Virginia Beach.

Blitz tournament -- Friday, August 23rd, 6:00-9:00 PM. Arrive by 5:45 PM to be paired for Round 1. Entry fee $10 (UPDATED / CHANGE). Cash prizes. ALL AGES. This event may be sectioned based on entries; Rated and Rookie / Not Rated sections available.
Bughouse tournament -- Friday, August 23rd, 5:00-8:00 PM, Arrive by 4:45 to be paired for Round 1. Register both you and your partner simultaneously. Entry fee $10/team. Trophy prizes.
Main event -- Saturday, August 24th. Registration / check-in open 8-9 AM.
There are five sections available for all ages and abilities.
Junior Rookie (students in grades Pre-K through 5 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)
Senior Rookie (students in grades 6-12 with limited or no experience at chess tournaments, no US Chess Federation membership required)
All-Ages Novice (Adults or students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and ratings below 600)
Junior Elite (students in grades Pre-K through 12 with US Chess Federation memberships and ratings 600 and up)
Senior Elite (adults rated 600 and up, advanced scholastic players rated 1000+)
Trophies will be awarded to the top five players in each of these five sections. Medals will be awarded for even scores not in trophy standings, and participation ribbons to the rest. There are no cash prizes for this event. There are no school team awards for this event.
Each section will play 4 or 5 rounds based on sign-ups (Swiss). Time control is G/40; d5. Rated section are dual-rated (Regular and Quick). Based on sign-ups, formats for sections may be changed on site -- e.g. combining Rookie sections to ensure enough players (split back out for awards), transitioning to Round Robin for low enrollment sections, fewer rounds with a longer time control for Senior Elite -- just some possibilities.
REGISTERING IN ADVANCE will give us more certainty about necessary changes to the format. Therefore, advance registration by Thursday, August 22nd at 9 PM = $10 entry fee for the main event. Registrations received after this date and time, including Saturday walk-ups, are $15.
8-9 AM Check-in and late registration
9-9:15 AM New player orientation (going over the rules and procedures for the beginners)
9:30 AM Round 1
Subsequent rounds to begin when each section is ready -- players must not leave the site! Concessions will be available for lunch. There will be no lunch break. You may pack a lunch or send someone to get food for your player.
ESTIMATED completion time for Rookie and Novice sections not later than 3:30 PM. ESTIMATED completion time for Elite sections not later than 5:30 PM.
Boards, sets, some clocks, and scoresheets are provided. Bring a chess clock if you own one. Bring something to write with. Parents, bring a camp chair if you are remaining on site.

If you are entering Bughouse, please list the name of your partner. Each partner must register separately to confirm the team.
