Why Mods Make Bug Testing Difficult

We know VotV has a great modding community, and mods can make the game more fun. But when it comes to bug testing, mods can seriously complicate things. Here’s why:

1. Mods Change How the Game Works

Mods can modify core mechanics, assets, or even save data. If a bug happens, it might not be caused by the game itself but by a mod interfering with something.

2. Game Updates Break Mods

When the game updates, mods might stop working properly. A bug that looks like a game issue could actually be a mod that’s no longer compatible.

3. Mod Conflicts

Some mods work fine alone but cause issues when used together. If a bug only happens with mods installed, there’s a good chance it’s due to a conflict, not the base game.

4. We Can’t Reproduce Modded Bugs

If you report a bug while using mods, we might not be able to recreate it in an unmodded version of the game. And if we can’t reproduce it, we can’t fix it.

5. Mod-Related Crashes & Performance Issues

Some mods introduce memory leaks, instability, or crashes. If you’re using mods and the game is acting weird, it’s likely the mod causing it.

What This Means for Bug Reports

Before reporting a bug, please test it on a clean, unmodded version of the game. If the bug still happens, then it’s something we can look into. If it only happens with mods, it’s outside our control.

We love seeing what the community creates, but when it comes to bug fixing, mods just make things harder.
