Cornwall Hugs Grenfell: Holiday Accommodation Pledge
‘It’s been a really good experience for us, hosting firefighters and survivors. You can see the difference it makes to the families and that makes it really worthwhile. There’s not much you can do from a distance in an awful situation like this, but what Cornwall can offer with these holidays is really worth giving.’ Sean Cattran, Trevarthian Holiday Homes, Marazion.
Thank you for joining our vision in this generous, practical way. So far over 480 Grenfell guests and firefighter guests have visited Cornwall through the scheme. This is the place to pledge individual holiday let accommodation. Although we'd love to, we are unable to accept rooms in private houses that are not normally let as B&B because of safeguarding compliance. If this was your offer, there may be other ways, such as volunteering to get involved. Please see our website.
Hosts have all said how rewarding they found the experience and how respectful and appreciative the guests have been. Many of our 2018 and 2019 hosts have said they'd like to offer again in 2020. Because many guests have children, our greatest need is for holiday time accommodation in locations. We also need to group accommodation time-wise because of our tiny administrative resource - we just can't cover and support holidays taking place at many different times. This will not be possible for all owners (and you can still pledge other weeks if that's you) but some will be able to plan/budget for this we hope, with our 'Hold, Release' system.
Pledging your holiday let
For 2020, we prefer if holiday let owners can commit to offering in a specific August week - 22nd August. If you can, please then hold this week. HOWEVER, if we have not contacted you within 10 weeks of the start date of this week, please then automatically RELEASE the week back to your booking system to avoid wastage. The simple form below will guide you through this. It also offers provision for those who can only pledge out of peak season but please do not 'hold' this week as you may risk losing business unnecessarily. If you are unable to use the Hold & Release system, please still register your interest to offer using this form. Thank you.
We work with the Fire Brigade and local support agencies to ensure ID verification of all guests. You will have accept/decline control and can opt out of the initiative at any point.
Follow us on FB or twitter on @cornwallhugs and watch the FB page for 'shout-outs' about specific firefighter (FF) or Grenfell Tower Residents (GTR) holiday needs. Please sign up to our newsletter on our website under NEWS - there you can see recent coverage and if you are signed up you'll get regular updates and shout-outs that way.
Your details will not be passed to third parties except to specific guests to facilitate booking.
Thank you again for your generosity and kindness in joining this very special project. The holidays allow guests to feel seen and valued in their loss and to access what one mother called 'the indescribable natural therapy of Cornwall'.
