BLACK LIFE YOUTH CAMP sign up form
Black Life Youth Camp is dedicated to training young people--YOU!--in digital skills, storytelling, historical thinking, and preserving the heritage of Black Americans in NE Iowa. The camp will take place on the University of Northern Iowa campus, with an all-Black staff made up of UNI faculty and student counselors. The two-week day camp will meet July 25-29 and Aug. 1-4, 2022, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Rod Library on the UNI campus. The camp is FREE. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
The camp is a joint initiative between the Iowa African American Heritage Trail and the Fortepan Iowa photo archive. We will teach you all sorts of digital imaging, animation, and media design skills while immersing you in local oral histories, historical research, and digital storytelling. If you can ride a bike, then we'll be biking around campus and on the Cedar Falls bike trails. We will have so. much. fun.
Camp sign up is on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis--the first 20 entries get a spot--so tell your friends and do this camp together! The camp is meant for middle schoolers, but we can be flexible if you are older, or maybe a little younger. The camp is sponsored by the Guernsey Foundation of Waterloo, IA and the Center for Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice at the University of Northern Iowa.
