St Louis Shag was a dance that emerged out of St. Louis in the mid-1930s, combining Swing and Charleston elements, and is particularly suited to faster tempos. Kerry Kapaku, from Chicago is a Lindy-Hop teacher and also specializes in St. Louis Shag, and is considered to be one of the strongest shag dancers in the Midwest. Kerry loves to compete, and has placed at events such a Midwest Lindy Fest, Nevermore Jazz Ball, and Camp Hollywood. When she’s not out traveling the country for dancing, owns her own dance studio, DanceWorks Indy. She will be here Sunday sharing with us before the dance at 2pm.
