Dancers should be prepared to dance from 7:45am-3pm depending on their enrolled phase. (Phase 1 is only a half day on Saturday). Dancers will take classes in various styles and are encouraged to try it all. Sitting out is highly frowned upon by the convention staff. Dancers who work hard and have a positive attitude are often rewarded with prizes, scholarships and other special awards. Most importantly the classes are FUN.

Your dancer should wear attire that they can dance in no matter the style, they may change from a ballet class to a hip hop class in a 5 minute window. Layers are terrific options and bring every dance shoe you have. If you don't have tap shoes, see if you can borrow some from a friend for the weekend, or tap in your tennis shoes. LABEL EVERYTHING you bring. There are literally 100's of dancers in each phase, and thing may get lost. It is very helpful if you've put your dancers name in that black jazz shoe!

Fueling your dancer will be VERY important this weekend. Please be sure to plan MANY quick and healthy snacks. Dancers do have a few minutes in between classes to eat a small something and go to the bathroom. There is a lunch break and we want the kids to be resting and fueling up, not standing in line for food. Small coolers and lunch bags work well. Great items to bring are:

Mixed nuts, jerky, granola bars, waters, sports drinks, dried fruit, fresh fruit, veggies, sandwiches.

Not great choices: Greasy fast food, high sugary or starchy options. Candy and sodas.

This is an amazing event that our dancers look foreword to every year. It may sound like a lot on paper however it inspires and refreshes our dancers every year. We keep attending Dupree each year because of it's amazing faculty and drama free environment.
