2021 Health Curriculum Consultation - Matapu School
The Board of Trustees are interested in your views and comments regarding the health programmes provided at Matapu School.

The Health and Physical Education learning area in the New Zealand Curriculum guides the plans made by our school to implement health programmes for students that have a focus on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society. This in turn connects with our school values of being respectful, responsible, active learners.

The four strands of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum are:

1. Personal Health and Physical Development - students develop the knowledge, understandings, skills, and attitudes that they need in order to maintain and enhance their personal well-being and physical development

2. Movement Concepts and Motor Skills - students develop motor skills, knowledge and understandings about movement, and positive attitudes towards physical activity

3. Relationships with Other People - students develop understandings, skills, and attitudes that enhance their interactions and relationships with others

4. Healthy Communities and Environments - students contribute to healthy communities and environments by taking responsible and critical action.

There are seven key areas of learning:
- mental health
- sexuality education
- food and nutrition
- body care and physical safety
- physical activity
- sports studies
- outdoor education

This consultation has a focus on the first four key areas related to the health aspect of the curriculum - mental health; sexuality education; food and nutrition; and, body care and physical safety.

Thank you for assisting us in our planning of health education programmes by contributing your views and suggestions.
