Summer 2017 Resident Advisor Application

General Job Description:
Summer Resident Advisors are live-in student staff who work within the JHU Summer Housing residential community to carry out the mission and the values of both the University and Residential Life. The Summer RAs live in either Charles Commons, McCoy, Bradford, or Homewood as determined by the professional staff. Summer RAs will act as the front line staff encouraging residents to respect one another, get involved with floor, building, and community summer activities, and provide information about campus resources. The Summer Housing population is diverse and may include students who are visiting Hopkins during the summer term.

Employment Eligibility:
· Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in either the Krieger School or Whiting School.
· Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and no outstanding conduct issues.
· Must be prepared to be employed full-time for the duration of approximately 10 weeks.
· Must have at least two semesters of residential undergraduate experience at JHU.
· Must be available for at least a few hours a day for office hours and in the evenings for programming.
· A valid driver’s license is helpful, but not required.

Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model to all residents and guests and personally adhere to all University Policies as well as Maryland law.
- Employ strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills on a consistent basis.
- Work cooperatively and consistently with Residential Life and other HRDC staff members to ensure successful implementation of the Summer Housing program.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Hopkins community and the residential/undergraduate experience.
- Report all maintenance or work orders to the Wolman Facilities Office and/or Summer Conferences in a timely manner.
- Attend all scheduled staff training(s) and meeting(s). Meetings may be called outside of regularly scheduled ones in order to address rising problems or to disseminate information.
- Serve as a resource and referral agent for all summer residents and guests.
- Create summer bulletin boards to display critical information as well as community happenings.
- Complete 1-2 community builder programs per week in addition to any co-programs or large scale events.
- Co-program with Summer Conferences for collaborative, large-scale events.
- Complete all necessary paperwork (i.e. program evaluations, communication reports, duty switch forms, etc).
- Must be available on nights and weekends to serve in the on-call duty schedule rotation.
- Will ensure that students understand and follow all University Policies.
- Will handle all emergency situations, crises, and student concerns as they arise and document appropriately.
- Be informed and able to instruct residents regarding any emergency evacuation procedures.
- Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality.
- Assist with assignments, check-ins/check-outs for Summer Housing students.
- Assist larger check-ins/check-outs for Summer Conferences as requested.
- Assist with closedown of Homewood, Bradford, and Charles Commons 11 month spaces on Monday, July 31, 2017 at key drop-off stations and with inspecting each suite/apartment upon move-out.
- Complete Early Move-In tasks related to Community Living (i.e. hanging signs, stuffing bags, placement of stickers, etc).
- Perform a minimum of 4 hours per week of office work in either the Charles Commons or AMR II Residential Life Offices.
- Will work on Residential Life projects as needed (i.e. video projects, RA Training prep, etc).
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the purpose of the position and supporting offices and staff.
