Alberta PrEP Prescriber Identification
As of October 1, 2018 generic versions of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) will be covered by Alberta Health for eligible Alberta residents who have Alberta Health Care. Currently, physicians and nurse practitioners are eligible to become designated prescribers but must apply to be added to the list (application here:
To become a designated prescriber, eligible providers may be required to complete an education module, though some experienced prescribers may be exempt. Currently, we are attempting to identify as many current and/or interested PrEP prescribers as possible before October 1st so that they can be added to the designated prescriber list before coverage is active. This will ensure that their patients are able to access public funding for PrEP as soon as coverage becomes available and do not experience treatment interruption.
After completing this form, a member of the EMHC or the AHS PrEP team will be in touch with the relevant prescriber to facilitate this process. Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at
